Tim nasional sepak bola Afrika Selatan ditahan imbang tanpa gol oleh Nikaragua dalam pertandingan persahabatan menjelang Piala Dunia 2026 di Orlando Amstel Arena pada Jumat malam, 29 Mei 2026. Hasil seri ini terjadi setelah penyerang Lyle Foster gagal mengeksekusi penalti pada babak pertama.
Dilansir dari flashscore.com, skuad Bafana Bafana mendominasi penguasaan bola secara penuh, namun kesulitan menembus pertahanan rendah tim tamu. Wasit asal Lesotho, Lebalang Mokete, memberikan penalti pada menit ke-43 setelah Kamogelo Sebelebele dijatuhkan Justing Cano, namun bola tendangan Foster membentur tiang gawang.
Nikaragua sendiri turun dengan formasi bertahan 5-4-1 serta membawa skuat muda berisi lima pemain baru tanpa caps. Pasukan berjuluk Los Pinoleros ini berada 71 peringkat di bawah Afrika Selatan dalam ranking FIFA dan tidak diperkuat Ariagner Smith karena laga bergulir di luar jendela transfer internasional.
Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan, Hugo Broos, memilih mengistirahatkan mayoritas pilar asal klub Mamelodi Sundowns yang baru menjuarai CAF Champions League di Maroko. Keputusan menghadapi tim CONCACAF diambil setelah rencana awal melawan tim Eropa seperti Serbia terkendala bentrokan jadwal domestik.
"The last few days have been very emotional with Sundowns celebrating and having parties, which I'm not against because when you win the Champions League you have to celebrate. They are not really mentally ready to focus on the World Cup just yet, and that's why the Sundowns players will not be in the squad for the game against Nicaragua. They will have another day to rest, and in the worst case they might have to play ten minutes." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Broos menurunkan Themba Zwane sebagai kapten yang sempat menyia-nyiakan umpan silang Sebelebele di awal laga. Sang pelatih juga memberikan debut kepada bek tengah Olwethu Makhanya dan bek kiri Bradley Cross demi membiasakan mereka di level tertinggi.
"We are at a point where we have to make our next step because the highest level of football is the World Cup. You will be confronted with players who have more experience on that level than us so we have to make that step up." ujar Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Untuk menambah daya gempur, Broos melakukan lima pergantian pemain sekaligus saat jeda babak pertama dengan memasukkan Sipho Chaine, Relebohile Mofokeng, Thapelo Maseko, Oswin Appollis, dan Iqraam Rayners. Evaluasi lini depan ini krusial sebelum Bafana Bafana bersua Jamaika.
"South Africa has always been a team that has played good football, but this is not enough. You need fighting spirit, you need to win games without playing well, and this is what we learnt especially in Ivory Coast." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Broos juga mengonfirmasi bahwa tantangan mencari lawan uji coba sangat dipengaruhi oleh kecocokan waktu antarnegara peserta yang harus memperhitungkan masa istirahat pemain.
"The best thing would've been for us to play against an Asian, European and a Central American team. You also need the opportunities to play against them. There were some other possibilities like Serbia, but they only wanted to play against us on the 29th of May, but the Sundowns players had to play on the 25th. So you have to take all of these things into account." ujar Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Pelatih berusia 74 tahun itu menyatakan bahwa performa anak asuhnya sudah cukup baik di tengah strategi defensif lawan.
"I think we can be happy with the performance today. The difficulty was that we came up against a very negative opponent. Nicaragua spent almost the entire 90 minutes defending, kicking the ball forward and trying to slow the game down whenever possible. That made it very difficult for us." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Broos menyesalkan kegagalan penalti pada babak pertama yang dinilai menjadi momentum hilang untuk memaksa Nikaragua bermain lebih terbuka.
"We missed the penalty and, if we score that goal, I think the game changes completely because they would have been forced to come out and try something. But they never really tried to attack today, they only defended," ujar Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Sementara itu, Pelatih Nikaragua, Juan Cruz Real, menilai kesempatan bertanding melawan tim peserta Piala Dunia sangat berharga bagi proses perkembangan timnya.
"We have the opportunity to come and play against a team that is going to the World Cup and that was very important for us in terms of gaining more experience," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Real menjelaskan bahwa skuatnya saat ini merupakan bagian dari proyeksi jangka panjang menuju Piala Dunia 2030, sehingga berkompetisi melawan tim yang lebih kuat menjadi hal yang krusial.
"We are a national team developing as a team, starting a new process. For us it is very important to compete against teams that are in better shape and higher in the FIFA rankings as well." ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Meskipun Nikaragua datang dengan catatan kurang impresif berupa enam kekalahan dari delapan laga terakhir, Real mengaku senang bisa mendapatkan kesempatan uji coba internasional ini.
"For us it is very pleasant to be here and play these kinds of games. It is a good opportunity for us." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Sebelum pertandingan, tim pelatih Los Pinoleros juga sudah menganalisis rekaman pertandingan terakhir dari skuat Bafana Bafana untuk memahami peta kekuatan lawan.
"We have been watching their last several games," ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Real mengakui kualitas Afrika Selatan yang dinamis dan dihuni pemain yang merumput di luar negeri, termasuk pemain di Major League Soccer (MLS) dan Lyle Foster.
"It is a good team, a very dynamic team. Most of the players play in the local league, however some of them play abroad, like Lyle Foster. Some play in MLS (Major League Soccer)." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Sang pelatih berharap anak asuhnya bisa memetik pelajaran berharga dari gaya permainan tim tuan rumah yang sudah memiliki pakem taktik jelas.
"It is a very competitive team. They have a very clear style of play, hopefully it will be a good experience for us. We are expecting to compete well with them." ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Real menegaskan pentingnya laga dengan intensitas tinggi seperti ini untuk melatih fisik serta mental berpikir para pemain mudanya agar bisa terus berkembang.
"It is a new experience for us. One of the things that we need to look at is trying to play these types of games that will force us to perform at the highest level possible, to feel in our body and our brain these types of games and make us better." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Nikaragua berkomitmen untuk tetap tampil maksimal demi menjaga kehormatan negara saat menghadapi lawan yang levelnya berada di atas mereka.
"We know we are going to play against a World Cup team, but we need to try and represent the country in the best manner possible," ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Setelah pertandingan di Johannesburg selesai, Afrika Selatan dijadwalkan melakoni laga uji coba melawan Jamaika pada 5 Juni 2026 sebelum membuka Piala Dunia melawan Meksiko pada 11 Juni 2026, sedangkan tim nasional Nikaragua langsung terbang menuju Asuncion untuk melawan Paraguay pada 3 Juni 2026.
