Tim nasional sepak bola Afrika Selatan menjamu Nikaragua dalam pertandingan uji coba menjelang Piala Dunia 2026 di Orlando Amstel Arena pada Jumat, 29 Mei 2026.
Pertandingan ini menjadi momentum bagi kedua tim untuk menguji formasi, dengan Afrika Selatan menerapkan strategi 4-2-3-1 dan Nikaragua memakai formasi bertahan 5-4-1.
Pelatih Afrika Selatan, Hugo Broos, memutuskan untuk mengistirahatkan enam pemain asal klub Mamelodi Sundowns yang baru saja menjuarai CAF Champions League di Maroko demi menjaga kondisi fisik mereka.
"The last few days have been very emotional with Sundowns celebrating and having parties, which I'm not against because when you win the Champions League you have to celebrate. They are not really mentally ready to focus on the World Cup just yet, and that's why the Sundowns players will not be in the squad for the game against Nicaragua. They will have another day to rest, and in the worst case they might have to play ten minutes." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Broos memanfaatkan laga ini untuk memberikan kesempatan kepada para pemain baru seperti Olwethu Makhanya dan Bradley Cross agar terbiasa dengan atmosfer tim nasional.
"We are at a point where we have to make our next step because the highest level of football is the World Cup. You will be confronted with players who have more experience on that level than us so we have to make that step up." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Keputusan menghadapi tim dari wilayah CONCACAF diambil setelah rencana awal untuk melawan tim dari Asia, Eropa, seperti Serbia, terkendala oleh bentrokan jadwal pertandingan domestik.
"South Africa has always been a team that has played good football, but this is not enough. You need fighting spirit, you need to win games without playing well, and this is what we learnt especially in Ivory Coast." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Broos juga menambahkan bahwa kesempatan beruji coba sangat dipengaruhi oleh kecocokan waktu antarnegara peserta.
"The best thing would've been for us to play against an Asian, European and a Central American team. You also need the opportunities to play against them. There were some other possibilities like Serbia, but they only wanted to play against us on the 29th of May, but the Sundowns players had to play on the 25th. So you have to take all of these things into account." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.
Sementara itu, pelatih Nikaragua, Juan Cruz Real, membawa skuat muda yang memuat lima pemain baru tanpa caps sebagai bagian dari proyeksi jangka panjang menuju Piala Dunia 2030.
"We have the opportunity to come and play against a team that is going to the World Cup and that was very important for us in terms of gaining more experience," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Nikaragua tidak bisa memainkan penyerang Ariagner Smith yang merumput di Kazakhstan karena laga ini berlangsung di luar jendela transfer internasional FIFA.
"We are a national team developing as a team, starting a new process. For us it is very important to compete against teams that are in better shape and higher in the FIFA rankings as well." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Meskipun demikian, Real mengaku telah menganalisis rekaman pertandingan terakhir dari skuat Bafana Bafana.
"For us it is very pleasant to be here and play these kinds of games. It is a good opportunity for us." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Kondisi tim lawan yang dinamis dan memiliki pemain di liga luar negeri seperti Lyle Foster menjadi tantangan besar bagi anak asuhnya.
"We have been watching their last several games," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Real berharap para pemainnya mampu memberikan perlawanan sengit dan menunjukkan performa maksimal di lapangan.
"It is a good team, a very dynamic team. Most of the players play in the local league, however some of them play abroad, like Lyle Foster. Some play in MLS (Major League Soccer)." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Kompetisi melawan tim level Piala Dunia dinilai sangat berharga untuk melatih mental serta fisik para pemain muda Nikaragua.
"It is a very competitive team. They have a very clear style of play, hopefully it will be a good experience for us. We are expecting to compete well with them." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Nikaragua datang dengan catatan kurang impresif setelah menelan enam kekalahan dari delapan laga terakhir mereka.
"It is a new experience for us. One of the things that we need to look at is trying to play these types of games that will force us to perform at the highest level possible, to feel in our body and our brain these types of games and make us better." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Skuat berjuluk Los Pinoleros tersebut berkomitmen untuk tetap menjaga kehormatan negara dalam pertandingan internasional ini.
"We know we are going to play against a World Cup team, but we need to try and represent the country in the best manner possible," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
Setelah pertandingan di Johannesburg selesai, tim nasional Nikaragua dijadwalkan langsung terbang menuju Asuncion untuk melakoni laga uji coba berikutnya melawan Paraguay pada 3 Juni 2026.
