Klub sepak bola Enugu Rangers berhasil mengunci gelar juara Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) musim 2025/2026 setelah menundukkan Ikorodu City dengan skor 2-1 pada laga pekan terakhir di Stadion Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Kemenangan tipis tersebut membawa Rangers International finis di puncak klasemen akhir Match Day 38 sekaligus menyamai rekor Enyimba sebagai klub tersukses di era modern dengan koleksi sembilan gelar juara liga.
Keberhasilan skuad berjuluk Flying Antelopes meraih trofi langsung memicu evaluasi mendalam dari sang pelatih kepala terkait kesiapan tim dalam menghadapi kompetisi antarklub Afrika di bawah naungan CAF.
"You need quality and experienced players to compete in Africa," ujar Fidelis Ilechukwu, Pelatih Kepala Rangers International F.C.
Ilechukwu menyoroti fenomena hengkangnya para pemain pilar ke liga-liga negara tetangga yang dinilai melemahkan kekuatan keterwakilan Nigeria di pentas regional.
"Player exits are affecting Nigerian clubs badly," cetus Fidelis Ilechukwu, Pelatih Kepala Rangers International F.C.
Eksodus talenta lokal menuju kompetisi di Tanzania, Ghana, hingga Zambia menjadi perhatian serius bagi masa depan stabilitas tim-tim domestik.
"We lose too many important players," kata Fidelis Ilechukwu, Pelatih Kepala Rangers International F.C.
Manajemen klub diharapkan mampu menjaga kontinuitas komposisi pemain demi membangun kekuatan yang solid saat bersaing di turnamen CAF.
"You cannot build strong continental teams when key players leave constantly," tutur Fidelis Ilechukwu, Pelatih Kepala Rangers International F.C.
Arsitek taktik tersebut tetap optimistis bahwa potensi besar sepak bola Nigeria akan mampu berbicara banyak di level benua jika program retensi pemain berjalan baik.
"Nigerian clubs have the talent to compete," tegas Fidelis Ilechukwu, Pelatih Kepala Rangers International F.C.
Di sisi lain, dukungan terhadap peningkatan kualitas kompetisi juga datang dari sektor korporasi yang menuntut perbaikan kinerja perangkat pertandingan demi transparansi liga.
"You could see this game this evening. Our boys played their hearts out, but you could see that the refereeing wasn’t totally balanced. We need to bring it to the standards of international football," ungkap Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Sektor swasta menilai penegakan disiplin dan transparansi tata kelola kompetisi menjadi magnet utama bagi masuknya investasi sponsor dari perusahaan besar skala nasional.
"It is that ability to bring transparency and discipline to the game that will allow more corporate sponsorship to come in. Afrinvest is a small company relative to all the large blue-chip companies that exist today," urai Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Potensi kapitalisasi pasar bursa Nigeria yang besar dinilai belum optimal dimanfaatkan untuk mendanai operasional klub-klub peserta kompetisi tertinggi.
"I mean, if you look at the Nigerian exchange with the valuation of over N150 trillion today, there are many companies whose names should be on many teams; we have over 20 teams in NPFL," tambah Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Investasi di sektor sepak bola juga dipandang strategis dalam mengatasi problematika sosial seperti tingginya angka pengangguran usia produktif.
"Going into the next season, you know, the Dangotes of this world, the banks and the cement companies should really be sponsoring football in Nigeria," lanjut Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Melalui ekosistem industri olahraga yang sehat, penyerapan tenaga kerja baru dapat tercipta di bidang manajemen, penyiaran media, hingga merchandise.
"For a country with the kind of youth unemployment we have… more than 70 per cent of our population are under age 25… football can be a mechanism to take people out of poverty, to create employment in merchandising, in football management, in training, in organisation and in the media, among others," jelas Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Manajemen Afrinvest mengaku bangga atas pencapaian trofi juara kedua dalam kurun waktu tiga tahun terakhir berkat kolaborasi tata kelola keuangan yang disiplin.
"So that’s why I hope the NPFL will take that charge and allow more transparency and more discipline in the way they do things," harap Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Kemitraan strategis ini diharapkan mampu memproyeksikan para talenta muda ke panggung sepak bola internasional yang lebih luas.
"We at Afrinvest are particularly proud to be associated with Rangers, and I’ve seen them carry the cup twice in three years," kata Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Pemanggilan dua pilar klub ke pemusatan latihan tim nasional luar negeri menjadi bukti nyata peningkatan kualitas individu pemain di bawah naungan klub.
"That says a lot for when finance meets football at its point of need and brings that discipline, that governance, that institutional capacity to support the team and elevate these young men to a platform where they can begin to see themselves on the global stage and go beyond Nigerian football," beber Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Perusahaan berkomitmen untuk terus melanjutkan kemitraan jangka panjang guna membawa klub ke level prestasi yang lebih tinggi.
"That shows you the quality of what we have brought to Rangers. We are very proud of what the boys have achieved, and we are super excited that this partnership will continue and take them to higher grounds," tutur Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director Afrinvest West Africa Limited.
Dari otoritas liga, Ketua NPFL Gbenga Elegbeleye menyampaikan apresiasi tinggi atas kelancaran jadwal kompetisi yang berjalan tepat waktu hingga akhir musim.
"I am sending a heartfelt message of congratulations to all the 20 clubs, including those who won tickets to represent Nigeria and those that were unfortunate to be relegated," ucap Gbenga Elegbeleye, Ketua NPFL.
Seluruh tim peserta dinilai memiliki andil besar dalam menciptakan persaingan yang kompetitif hingga pertandingan penentu pada hari terakhir.
"Together, we played to make the season a resounding success by competing till the last day," puji Gbenga Elegbeleye, Ketua NPFL.
Tiga tim teratas klasemen yakni Rangers International, Rivers United di posisi kedua, serta Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) di peringkat ketiga diminta segera fokus bersiap.
"The season may have ended, but going to play on the continent means that your preparation starts now," imbau Gbenga Elegbeleye, Ketua NPFL.
Perwakilan klub domestik dibebani target besar untuk memulihkan reputasi dan dominasi sepak bola Nigeria dalam kejuaraan regional Afrika.
"I charge you to change the narrative of the recent past to give the country a formidable presence again on the African club completions," tegas Gbenga Elegbeleye, Ketua NPFL.
Sementara itu, bek sayap Super Eagles Chibueze Oputa mengungkapkan rasa haru sekaligus penyesalan karena tidak bisa merayakan momentum juara secara langsung di lapangan.
"I’m so happy we became Nigerian champions. I wish I was there to play the final game with the team, but God is good," aku Chibueze Oputa, Bek Kanan Enugu Rangers.
Pemain bertahan tersebut harus absen dari laga krusial di Lagos karena sedang memenuhi panggilan tugas negara di London menjelang laga semifinal Unity Cup melawan Zimbabwe.
"We never stopped praying and believing. Even from London on Unity Cup duty with Nigeria, my heart was with the boys. I’ll keep giving my best to represent both Rangers and Nigeria proudly," pungkat Chibueze Oputa, Bek Kanan Enugu Rangers.
