Manajer Coventry City Frank Lampard dinobatkan sebagai manajer terbaik tahun ini oleh League Managers Association dalam seremoni di London setelah membawa timnya menjuarai kompetisi Championship.
Keberhasilan menjuarai kasta kedua tersebut memastikan Sky Blues kembali ke Liga Primer Inggris untuk pertama kalinya sejak 2001. Atas pencapaian ini, Lampard menerima trofi Sir Alex Ferguson yang diserahkan oleh pelatih timnas Inggris Thomas Tuchel.
Sir Alex Ferguson tidak dapat menghadiri acara tersebut karena masih menjalani masa pemulihan setelah menerima perawatan medis awal bulan ini. Meski demikian, Ferguson menitipkan sebuah surat pribadi untuk mantan pelatih Chelsea tersebut.
"It is of course not the same without Sir Alex himself and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery so that he is hopefully with us next year on stage again," kata Thomas Tuchel, Manajer Timnas Inggris.
Sebelum membacakan transkrip surat, Tuchel yang mewakili Ferguson juga memberikan kata-kata dukungannya sendiri di atas panggung kepada Lampard.
"Until then I have the privilege to read this letter to you, Frank," ujar Thomas Tuchel, Manajer Timnas Inggris.
Melalui surat tersebut, Ferguson menyampaikan ucapan selamat dan rasa bangganya terhadap kinerja Lampard bersama Coventry City sepanjang musim ini.
"Dear Frank, many congratulations on being named LMA manager of the year. You should be very proud of what you and your team have accomplished. Your personality as a manager and a leader is so clearly defined in how your team has played great football this season - with confidence and self-belief and I have enjoyed watching you. I know from speaking with you that you have great humility and that important quality of a curious mind for learning. I'm sure winning this award will mean a great deal to you, Frank, and I wish you the best of luck in the Premier League next season." tulis Sir Alex Ferguson, Legenda Manchester United.
Selain Lampard, manajer Arsenal Mikel Arteta turut hadir dalam acara tersebut untuk menerima penghargaan pelatih terbaik Liga Primer Inggris di tengah persiapannya menghadapi final Liga Champions. Sementara itu, Andree Jeglertz dari Manchester City menyabet penghargaan pelatih terbaik liga wanita WSL setelah menghentikan dominasi Chelsea selama enam tahun berturut-turut.
