Manajemen Manchester City dilaporkan telah mencapai kesepakatan lisan penuh untuk menunjuk Enzo Maresca sebagai manajer baru guna menggantikan posisi Pep Guardiola menjelang musim kompetisi 2026-2027.
Langkah krusial ini diambil oleh pihak klub lantaran rumor perpisahan Guardiola dengan Manchester City kian menguat menjelang akhir musim Liga Primer Inggris, di mana laga kontra Aston Villa di Stadion Etihad diprediksi menjadi pertandingan pamungkasnya.
Berdasarkan informasi yang diunggah oleh jurnalis spesialis transfer Fabrizio Romano di media sosial X pada Selasa, 19 Mei 2026 siang WIB, mantan pelatih Chelsea tersebut akan diikat dengan kontrak awal selama tiga tahun.
"BREAKING: Enzo Maresca has a total verbal agreement with Manchester City, HERE WE GO! The Italian manager has always been considered the ideal candidate to replace Pep Guardiola. Deal in place and Maresca will sign an initial three year deal at #MCFC." tulis Fabrizio Romano, jurnalis spesialis transfer.
Maresca yang kini berusia 46 tahun berstatus tanpa klub setelah mengundurkan diri dari kursi manajer Chelsea pada akhir tahun 2025 usai membawa timnya menjuarai Piala Dunia Antarklub FIFA.
Pria asal Italia tersebut dianggap sebagai suksesor ideal karena memiliki filosofi permainan yang mirip dengan Guardiola, serta pernah mengabdi di City sebagai asisten pelatih tim utama pada musim 2022-2023 dan menangani tim akademi klub.
Selama satu dekade membesut The Sky Blues, Guardiola telah mempersembahkan 20 gelar juara ke Etihad Stadium, termasuk enam titel Liga Inggris dan satu trofi Liga Champions.
Sebagai bentuk penghormatan atas dominasinya di Inggris, internal City dikabarkan mulai mempertimbangkan untuk mengabadikan nama pelatih asal Spanyol tersebut pada tribune baru North Stand.
Sementara itu, spekulasi kepergian Guardiola dipastikan tidak memengaruhi fokus internal tim yang saat ini tengah bertarung memperebutkan gelar juara liga di pekan terakhir.
Manajer Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola, turut memberikan komentar mengenai situasi tersebut menjelang pertandingan timnya melawan Manchester City.
"It's going to be emotional but probably after the game. The game is so difficult, you get ready and prepare so many things that you are focused on the game, on the difficulty of the game, to give our best version." kata Andoni Iraola, Manajer Bournemouth.
Iraola menambahkan bahwa timnya sangat membutuhkan hasil maksimal demi mengamankan tiket ke kompetisi Eropa musim depan, meskipun harus menghadapi City yang sedang dalam performa terbaik.
"For us it's massive, obviously. We want to play in Europe next season, we know we are close but we are still not there. We need a result today. Probably the biggest of the challenges, City arriving in the last week fighting for the title. But if we do it, it's massive. So we'll give our best and let's see if it's enough." ujar Andoni Iraola, Manajer Bournemouth.
Pertandingan ini juga menarik perhatian karena hubungan Iraola dengan manajer Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, yang sempat menjadi rekan setim di masa muda.
"I suppose he will be supporting us today. He also knows a lot of people in the other side. I want to win because it's massive for us and we have a massive opportunity. I understand the interest in the game but I want to do it for Bournemouth." ucap Andoni Iraola, Manajer Bournemouth.
Meski demikian, Iraola menegaskan bahwa dirinya tidak menjalin komunikasi dengan Arteta sepanjang pekan ini demi menjaga fokus tim masing-masing.
"We haven't been in touch this week. We will talk after the season ends, definitely." kata Andoni Iraola, Manajer Bournemouth.
Terkait dengan rumor kepergian Guardiola dari Etihad Stadium, Iraola menilai hal tersebut tidak akan memengaruhi jalannya pertandingan penting bagi kedua tim.
"No, it's a thing for Pep to say what he has to say. I don't think it will affect anything on their side or on our side in terms of the game itself because the game is so important that everything around the noise is something secondary now." ujar Andoni Iraola, Manajer Bournemouth.
Guna menghadapi kualitas permainan Manchester City yang sangat tinggi, Bournemouth dituntut tampil sempurna sekaligus mengharapkan sedikit keberuntungan.
"We have to be very good, give yourself a chance and also you have to be lucky in certain moments because they are so so good." ucap Andoni Iraola, Manajer Bournemouth.
Dalam pertandingan ini, Bournemouth melakukan satu perubahan susunan pemain dengan memainkan Tyler Adams sebagai kapten untuk menggantikan Ryan Christie yang dipanggil ke skuad Piala Dunia timnas Skotlandia.
Di kubu Manchester City, Guardiola melakukan dua perubahan dari skuad final Piala Atas FA dengan menampilkan Mateo Kovacic sejak awal serta kembalinya Gianluigi Donnarumma di bawah mistar gawang.
Di sisi lain, perkembangan mengejutkan datang dari English Football League yang merilis sanksi disiplin berat terhadap salah satu klub Championship terkait pelanggaran regulasi.
"An independent disciplinary commission has today expelled Southampton from the Sky Bet Championship play-offs after the club admitted to multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other clubs’ training." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
Sanksi tersebut dijatuhkan setelah Southampton terbukti melakukan perekaman tanpa izin terhadap sesi latihan klub lain.
"In addition, the club has received a four-point deduction that will be applied to the 2026-27 Championship table, alongside a reprimand in respect of all the charges." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
Akibat dari keputusan ini, susunan tim yang berlaga di babak gugur promosi mengalami perubahan mendasar secara mendadak.
"The effect of today’s order is that Middlesbrough are reinstated into the 2026 Play-Offs and will proceed to the play-off final against Hull City. The final remains scheduled for Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time to be confirmed." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
Pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh Southampton dilaporkan terjadi dalam beberapa laga penting sepanjang musim kompetisi.
"Southampton was first charged on Friday, 8 May, with further charges issued on Sunday, 17 May in relation to additional breaches during the 2025-26 season. Those additional charges arose from matters identified after the initial proceedings involving Middlesbrough were initiated." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
Klub tersebut mengakui telah melanggar asas iktikad baik dan larangan memata-matai latihan tim lawan dalam kurun waktu 72 jam sebelum pertandingan dimulai.
"Southampton admitted breaches of regulations requiring clubs to act with the utmost good faith and prohibiting the observation of another club’s training session within 72 hours of a scheduled match. The admitted breaches concern fixtures against Oxford United in December 2025, Ipswich Town in April 2026 and Middlesbrough in May 2026." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
Meskipun demikian, Southampton masih memiliki hak hukum untuk mengajukan keberatan atas vonis komisi disiplin independen tersebut.
"Southampton has a right to appeal the commission’s decision in accordance with EFL Regulations and the parties are working to try and resolve any appeal on Wednesday, 20 May. Subject to the outcome, it could result in a further change to Saturday’s fixture." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
Saat ini, otoritas liga sedang melakukan koordinasi intensif dengan seluruh pihak terkait mengenai dampak lanjutan dari pembatalan keikutsertaan Southampton.
"The EFL is now in discussion with all three clubs regarding the implications of today’s decision and will make a further announcement in due course. The commission’s full written reasons will also be published in due course." tulis EFL, Otoritas Kompetisi.
