Bintang American football Travis Kelce resmi menjadi investor minoritas di klub Major League Baseball (MLB), Cleveland Guardians, pada Rabu (27/5/2026). Pemain tight end Kansas City Chiefs tersebut mengakuisisi sebagian kecil saham dari 35 persen kepemilikan milik David Blitzer di waralaba tersebut.
Pengumuman investasi ini menandai kembalinya atlet kelahiran Cleveland Heights tersebut ke kota asalnya untuk mendukung tim bisbol masa kecilnya. Pihak Cleveland Guardians mengonfirmasi bahwa kesepakatan ini telah tercapai dan sang pemain dijadwalkan hadir langsung di Progressive Field pada Minggu, 14 Juni 2026, saat pertandingan melawan Detroit Tigers.
Langkah investasi olahraga profesional ini mengikuti jejak rekan setimnya di Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, yang telah lebih dulu memiliki saham di klub Kansas City Royals sejak 2020. Kelce sendiri memiliki keterikatan kuat dengan bisbol setelah sempat bersinar di cabang olahraga ini semasa SMA dan bermain di tim musim panas perguruan tinggi.
“This is a way that I can always cement myself back into the east side of Cleveland,” kata Travis Kelce dalam siniar New Heights bersama saudaranya, Jason. “It’s a dream come true for a Cleveland kid. Any Cleveland kid would be through the roof right now and I’m happy to be the honorable one to get to do it for us.”
Investasi ini menjadi komitmen jangka panjang bagi Kelce yang tumbuh besar dengan memori menyaksikan langsung pertandingan klub bisbol tersebut di Progressive Field pada akhir era 1990-an dan awal 2000-an.
“The opportunity came across the desk and I just couldn’t say no. … These guys gave me the opportunity to show my Cleveland love and plant my roots in Cleveland forever, no matter what. It’s an awesome feeling knowing that a childhood kid who grew up on the east side is now part-owner of his favorite baseball team,” ujar Travis Kelce.
Sebelum kesepakatan ini diumumkan, Kelce juga sempat melakukan lemparan pertama seremonial yang ikonik dengan membentur tanah sebelum pembukaan musim pertandingan kandang Cleveland tiga tahun lalu.
“Baseball in Cleveland,” ucap Travis Kelce. “is historically one of our favorite pastimes. It’s such an honor to finally be a part of the organization, knowing how many times I’ve always dreamed about maybe playing for them in the big leagues one day. This will be the closest I ever get, to be a part of this organization.”
Selain melalui siniar pribadi, Kelce juga menyampaikan rasa antusiasmenya melalui pernyataan tertulis yang dirilis secara resmi oleh pihak klub mengenai ambisinya membawa gelar juara.
“Everyone knows how much love I have for this city, so to have the opportunity to come back and join the Guardians’ ownership group is the coolest thing in the world,” tutur Travis Kelce. “I’ve always looked for ways to support and uplift my hometown, so I can’t wait to keep sharing the love and the passion I have for sports and this community as we look to bring a World Series title back to the Land.”
Manajemen klub menyambut baik bergabungnya pemenang tiga trofi Super Bowl tersebut ke dalam struktur kepemilikan demi memberikan dampak positif bagi organisasi dan komunitas lokal.
“Travis Kelce knows what it takes to win at the highest levels and he’s exemplified that throughout his playing career and in the way he shows up as a community leader and businessman,” sebut Paul Dolan dan David Blitzer dalam pernyataan bersama. “He cares deeply for Cleveland and Northeast Ohio and is committed to supporting our mission of building out a world-class organization that helps uplift the communities we serve. It’s great to welcome Travis home and we know he’ll make a lasting impact here.”
Kedatangan investor baru ini terjadi di tengah rencana suksesi kepemilikan klub, di mana David Blitzer memiliki opsi untuk mengambil alih kendali saham mayoritas dari keluarga Dolan setelah musim 2027 bergulir.
“I’m still a little bit bitter because the Chiefs beat the Niners twice in the Super Bowl,” kelakar Stephen Vogt, manajer Cleveland Guardians. “but outside of that, it’s pretty cool. Pretty cool to have Kelce on board.”
Sebelum berinvestasi di Cleveland Guardians, Kelce tercatat telah bergabung dengan grup investor aktivis untuk membeli sekitar 9 persen kepemilikan di Six Flags pada Oktober lalu dan ditunjuk sebagai duta merek perusahaan tersebut pada Maret 2026.
