Menteri Keamanan Nasional Israel Itamar Ben-Gvir memicu krisis diplomatik global pada Rabu setelah mengunggah video yang menunjukkan dirinya mengolok-olok aktivis kemanusiaan internasional yang ditahan dengan tangan terikat pasca-penyadapan armada bantuan Global Sumud Flotilla menuju Gaza oleh militer Israel di perairan internasional.
Aksi tersebut langsung memicu gelombang kecaman keras dari berbagai pemimpin dunia, termasuk Amerika Serikat, Inggris, Prancis, Italia, Kanada, Australia, Selandia Baru, Korea Selatan, dan Indonesia, yang menuntut pembebasan segera serta menyoroti pelanggaran hak asasi manusia.
Kelompok hak asasi manusia Adalah melaporkan adanya kekerasan fisik dan psikologis sistematis, termasuk penggunaan peluru karet serta taser oleh otoritas Israel terhadap 430 aktivis dari 40 negara yang berada di dalam 50 kapal tersebut.
Kementerian Luar Negeri Indonesia mengonfirmasi sembilan warga negara Indonesia, termasuk tiga jurnalis dari Republika dan Tempo, turut ditahan di pelabuhan Ashdod, sehingga memaksa pemerintah menggalang komunikasi diplomatik intensif via Yordania, Turki, dan Mesir.
Di tengah kecaman internasional, Perdana Menteri Israel Benjamin Netanyahu langsung mengambil jarak dan menegaskan tindakan menterinya tidak mencerminkan nilai-nilai negara, lalu memerintahkan deportasi cepat bagi para aktivis tersebut.
Krisis internal Israel semakin meruncing ketika Menteri Luar Negeri Gideon Saar turut menyerang rekan kabinetnya itu secara terbuka karena dianggap sengaja merusak citra diplomasi negara di panggung dunia.
Sementara itu, ketegangan di Gaza dilaporkan masih tinggi dalam tujuh bulan pasca-gencatan senjata Oktober lalu, di mana PBB menyatakan mayoritas dari 2,1 juta penduduk masih telantar di tenda-tenda darurat tanpa akses sanitasi dan air bersih yang konsisten.
